Napoleon- Total War is a real time tactics video game designed on the turn based strategy typically designed for personal computers. It is the sixth episode of the Total War series. Napoleon- Total War focuses on the first quarter of the 19th century military campaign of Napoleon Bonaparte.
As a player you either pretend to be Napoleon and devise a strategy to defeat the enemies or you can join the enemy to defeat him. The game rather than having an American story line portrays early life of the general. Napoleon- Total War having released with different editions all with slight changes in the plot. It consists of his different war campaigns like Italian, Egypt. Different levels and campaigns have different requirement of occupying certain number of territories besides the one common condition that the French should be defeated.
Historical scenario of the major battles that Napoleon fought is there in Napoleon- Total War, separate from the campaign which is quite a good source of information for those who are interested in knowing about his main battlefield campaigns like that of Waterloo and Trafalgar. There are a number of features and unique characteristics that make playing of Napoleon- Total War, a realistic, very appealing and attracting experience. For instance, cannon balls hitting the ground create and leave behind the impact crater that really adds to a realistic feel when playing the game.
Similarly, in case of smoke produced after a blast, the smoke does not disappear soon – it lingers and blocks the visibility for quite some time in the area of encounter. The characters of the Napoleon- Total War are more varied and less generic as compared to the previous versions of the game. Moreover, the physical and geographical variations in the settings demand a varied approach to use of arms and ammunition as per the requirement of the settings and surroundings.
Many environmental factors affecting the normal course of battle in the game like gunpowder backfiring in rainy weather and the range of ammunition changing from its routine, in case of altitudes are the factors that contribute in making Napoleon- Total War a unique game of its kind. Napoleon- Total War can be played by single as well as multi players and there is yet another unique and very interesting feature that while a player is playing against the computer, another player can join in through lobby and take control of the happenings and proceedings – a very rare feature indeed to have in such games. You can communicate and speak to other players via Steam in an interactive way.
In Napoleon- Total War, there are nearly thirty factions; out of which only eleven are playable namely Austria, France, United Kingdom, Prussia, Russia, Ottoman Empire, Portugal, Spain , Denmark- Norway, United Netherlands and Bavaria.
A new uniform system including 335 uniforms make it a very diversified, colorful and unique experience of gaming world. The Napoleon- Total War has the drawback of having linear story during the campaigns and the ‘net code’ of the game’s stability is also questionable.
