Alice In Wonderland

Released from Disney Interactive Studios, the Alice in Wonderland game somehow doesn’t live up to the movie experience that left viewers in ‘punch drunk love’ for months. The super success of the entire movie may have cost Disney a blasting triumph over Gamers, but the game itself isn’t very bad. The plot follows Alice around in her travels all over Wonderland meeting all the vibrant and brilliantly sculpted characters the story holds. From the ever-anxious March Hare to the raving Mad Hatter, each character in the game is exactly as vivid as the movie. Not a hit, but at least a onetime play.

Lewis Carroll’s beautiful novel does play out well in the movie and the game, as Alice is followed 10 years after her first visit to ‘Underland’ or ‘Wonderland’ (something still utterly confusing). As a teenager, she faces all the characters from her fantastic past and battles all those ‘challenging’ (ahem) enemies; but the game is a rather teenage affair, perhaps for a few of the older kids if you can undermine some of the violence blend into the scripting. Though people from all ages and places have been moved by Tim Burton’s amazing film experience; the game is off the mark.
Childishly laid out, with some puzzles that aren’t any test at all, a very difficult camera at times; the game Alice in Wonderland really doesn’t leave gamers needing more. The artwork is of course mind boggling, with the 3D prowess of Disney Interactive making the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS experience a worthwhile affair, but as a movie to game adaptation; this particular part of the franchise needed more work and perhaps more reason to be played universally.

In the game, it’s based so closely to the movie script; that the gameplay charm dissolves in itself. The initial levels are too simple to survive modern gaming demands and controls are made intentionally easy; hence less of gaining skills to be developed. With Wii controls and that amazing hardware; it’s practically a walk through. But the game Alice in Wonderland does hold a few surprising tit-bits to nibble on at the end levels and sequences where you need to learn and develop multiple skills to solve certain riddles. However, over all, this Disney production fails where it had succeeded well with its earlier movie to game adaptations like Batman: Arkham Asylum.

While most of the gaming world has rated this game as a 7.6/10; many feel it’s partial to the mundane gaming quality. Looking at graphics which happen to be a fundamental necessity of gaming today; one might find this adaptation appealing; but resolution and art by themselves don’t make a game. There’s hardly anything to play here except giant mosquitoes and humorous enemies who are nothing funny. The Red Queen’s armored cards look like wet lettuce leaves rushing at you while the ‘Evil Trees’ feel like they only need a strong Weed-killer to get rid of. Overall, many are disappointed by the game just as they were stimulated by the visual magic of Tim Burton and rank acting by Johnny Depp in the movie.

To maintain their brand and monopoly, the PC version comes with SecuROM to deny pirated versions from finishing the game. The Wii and Nintendo Versions have sold moderately; however, they all failed to grasp true gaming attention. But to be honest to earth, Alice in Wonderland the game lacks a lot in presence and performance, something unusually unexpected from Disney Interactive.
